One of my absolute favorite flavor combinations is Chocolate and peppermint! Chocolate and peppermint together are so delicious. And they’re especially good in the winter holiday season. So I came up with these super delicious chocolate peppermint cookies!
How to Make Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

What could be better than sitting down on a cold night with a freshly made chocolate peppermint cookie and a cup of hot cocoa? Pretty much nothing if you ask me!
As the holiday season approaches this year, I really wanted the perfect cookie to celebrate with. As I was thinking about what to put together I came across these chocolate peppermint baking chips. Immediately I knew what I wanted to do! Create the perfect soft, chewy chocolate peppermint cookie recipe. I have to admit, the baking chips themselves are SO good, I ended up snacking on them alone also.
I had already tried these Peppermint Patty cookies, which are a really similar flavor profile, but a slightly different take.
And, I already have recipes for white chocolate cranberry cookies, white chocolate cookies, and colorful M&M cookies. All of which are great for celebrating and snacking. But none match the minty chocolate flavor that these cookies bring.
As always, this chocolate peppermint cookie recipe is super easy to make. As an extra bonus no chilling time required! So you’ll have plenty of time to make these and keep up with your busy holiday schedule.
Step One
Baking Tip: if you want to be ready to bake your cookies as soon as your cookie dough is complete, make sure to pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
Once your oven is preheated, you can get started! First you want to gather your butter, sugar and a stand mixer. This stand mixer is the one we use it’s super awesome and heavy duty. We also use this mixer which is a little more portable.
Toss your sugar and butter into your mixing bowl and turn your stand mixer on high. The butter and sugar will not mix well unless your butter has been softened first.
Softening butter is super easy. Simply leave it on the counter for a while before starting or pop it in the microwave first. If you use the microwave be careful to do only a few seconds at a time until butter softened and not actually melted.
Butter and sugar should be cream together after few minutes on high with a stand mixer. Make sure that there are no chunks of butter left when you have finished.
Step Two
Now that you’ve creamed your butter and sugar you want to add those to the remaining wet ingredients. Add your vanilla extract and crack your eggs into your mixing bowl.
Restart your stand mixer, this time on medium. It should take one to two minutes to thoroughly mix the eggs and vanilla in with the creamed butter and sugar.
Step Three
Grab a separate bowl for your flour, baking soda and salt.at all three of those dry ingredients to your new bowl and stir lightly until they are combined.

Step Four
Next take your bowl of dry ingredients and slowly add it to the mixing bowl with the creamed butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract. You want to slowly and thoroughly combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients.
You can either use a spoon / spatula and do this by hand. Or you can use your stand mixer on low. Make sure to scrape the sides of your bowl so that any excess ingredients are mixed in as well. Don’t overmix your cookie dough or it will get too tough.
Step Five
Next you’ll add in the chocolate peppermint baking chips. Take your chocolate peppermint chips and add them to your mixed cookie dough. Using your spatula to fold the baking chips into the cookie dough so that everything is completely combined.
Note: if you cannot find chocolate peppermint baking chips you can make these with a slightly different recipe. Use a chocolate cookie recipe and you can either add a dash of peppermint to the cookie dough or you can crush candy canes and add those for the peppermint flavor.
Step Six
Now you need to make balls from your cookie dough and place them on a cookie sheet that is either pre-greased or non-stick. Your cookies can be any size, however I found that using a heaping tablespoon of about 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of cookie dough makes a perfect sized cookie.
Place your balls of cookie dough on your cookie sheet making sure that they are spread well enough apart that they will not run together during baking.
Step Seven
Go ahead and stick your cookie sheet with cookie dough into your oven. Set a timer for 8 minutes to start.
Your cookies should take anywhere from 8 to 12 minutes to bake. Once your 8 minute timer goes off take a look and see if they’re ready. If not you can add one to two minutes on the timer and check again.
Cookies are ready when the dough is completely cooked and the edges are slightly crisp. When done remove baking sheet and cookies from the oven and allow to cool before eating.
