Step One
Note: make sure to soften your butter and pre-heat your oven before getting started. To soften butter let it sit on the counter for a few hours before getting started. If you don't want to wait that long you can soften it in your microwave, just make sure that it doesn't start to melt.
Once your oven is preheating to 350 degrees you can get started. Take your butter and sugar and combine them with a mixer in a mixing bowl. You want to ensure that they are thoroughly creamed together. This will take several minutes.
Step Two
Get your eggs and vanilla extract and add them into the bowl with the creamed sugar and butter. You will then want to mix all four ingredients completely together. Once again use your mixer to do this, it should take one to two minutes. This should be done on medium so that your dough doesn't get over mixed.

Step Three
Get your dry ingredients which are flour, salt and baking soda. Put them into a separate bowl from your wet ingredients and stir them together.
Step Four
Now, you're ready to make your cookie dough. Take your dry ingredients and add them slowly to your wet ingredients.
Either by hand or using your mixer from steps previous combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until everything is thoroughly mixed. Make sure that no ingredients are left on the sides of your mixing bowl.
Step Five
Grab your chocolate chips and pecans. I like to pre-crush pecan halves or use pecan pieces so that there are not large pieces of pecans in my cookies. However, you can certainly use halves if you like.
Add your chocolate chips and pecans to your cookie dough and stir into the dough so that everything is folded together and mixed completely.
You can chill your cookie dough if you want. Chilling cookie dough will help to prevent cookies from flattening out while baking. It's not 100% necessary as they will still be fluffy without chilling, but you can do it if you'd like.
Step Six
Now you want to make balls of cookie dough and put them onto a baking sheet.
Pro Tip: make sure you are using a non stick baking sheet or one that has been pre-greased.
I used about 1 and ½ tablespoons per cookie. You can make your cookies smaller or bigger if you like. You will have to adjust cooking time if you make cookies a different size.
Using heaping tablespoons, scoop cookie dough out and form them into balls. You want to make sure that your balls of cookie dough or tightly packed. Place each ball onto your cookie sheet evenly spaced apart.
Pro tip: make sure cookie dough balls are separated enough that they won't run into one another while baking.
Step Seven
Pop your cookies into your oven for 8-12 minutes. Set a timer for 8 minutes to start and check your cookies.
Cookies are done when their centers are solid and edges are slightly crispy. Make sure not to overcook as they will continue to cook a little after removing from the oven.
When done baking, remove your cookies from the oven and let them cool before removing from the cookie sheet.
